HIFU is ultrasound with high intensity of the latest generation. The name of the procedure is an acronym from the first letters of the phrase (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound). The technology was patented in the first half of the twentieth century, while for 20 years it was used to treat tumors, including kidneys, bladder or prostate cancer. For several years, it has been applied in the beauty industry, bringing satisfactory results in treatments in the field of aesthetic medicine.

It is an innovative method that uses fuzzy high-frequency ultrasound, which is very popular in non-invasive, non-surgical lifting procedures. Thanks to its effectiveness and satisfying effects, the treatment quickly gains popularity. In addition, HIFU treatments are not risky and do not require convalescence.

 

What is the HIFU procedure?

The concentrated and precisely selected ultrasound beam reaches the three layers of the skin: dermis and deeper tissues, adipose tissue and muscle fascia (SMAS). HIFU ultrasonic waves with high intensity are focused on the selected area of ​​the body. The fragment of the treatment area is subjected to ablation. HIFU causes tension in the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in the reduction of fat cells, lifting, skin density, reduced skin flaccidity, wrinkles reduction, improved skin elasticity, raised eyebrows, improved skin appearance of the neck, also used in shaping the figure.

How does HIFU work?

During the treatment a highly concentrated intensity of ultrasound beam is used to provide energy to deeper tissues, these are the coatings on which surgeons who perform face-lifting work, but thanks to HIFU technology, there are no cuts or scars after surgical skinning. The supplied energy begins the natural response of the body stimulating collagen synthesis and also strengthens the existing collagen.

Highly concentrated energy creates zones of thermal coagulation at three different depths, followed by a healing reaction, which results in the formation of new, natural collagen, providing a longer effect of skin tension.

 In addition to the possibility of changing the intensity of the device, we can also control the depth with which the device delivers energy - both at the surface level and at a much deeper level for varied results, depending on the individual needs of each patient.

HIFU technology provides energy to the appropriate depth of the skin at a precisely adjusted temperature of 65C0 thus bypassing the superficial layers of the skin.

The area of ​​the surgery is subjected to ablation, and the tissues have two physical processes:

    thermal: formed as a result of the absorption of ultrasonic waves by cells, accumulated heat leads to coagulation of tissues
    mechanical: it consists in generating gas bubbles inside the cell causing the pressure to rise, which leads to a controlled damage to its structure

As a result of tissue damage, the natural defense process of the body occurs, causing immediate reaction of cells to regeneration and reconstruction of damaged tissues.

 

What effects can be obtained by HIFU surgery?

Is the HIFU procedure painful?

What you feel during the procedure are small amounts of concentrated ultrasound heat, giving a feeling of warmth that is deposited under the surface of the skin. Many people describe it as a tingling sensation. The degree and type of any discomfort will be different for different people and for individual areas of the body. After the treatment there may be slight sensitivity to touch.

Can I return to work and daily tasks after the HIFU procedure?

You can return to your normal activities immediately after the procedure without any restrictions or requirements. The advantage of HIFU surgery is that it can be performed with exfoliation procedures, tanned skin, acne and rosacea.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Treatment with the use of HIFU does not require special preparation. Immediately before the surgery, a consultation is carried out, where the patient is informed about how the procedure will be performed, what is the HIFU action and how it affects the skin, and what feelings the patient can expect during the procedure.

After treatment:

After the surgery, there are no visible changes on the skin that exclude the patient from everyday life. It is recommended only to not sport on the same day. A slight reddening of the treated area is possible, which disappears after about an hour or two after the surgery.

Recommendations after the procedure

• you should avoid exposing your skin to extreme temperatures (high or low),   
  
• protect the skin with a moisturizing cream and SPF,   
  
• increase the amount of water consumed,   
  
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 48 hours or longer if possible to get optimal results.
