Hyaluronidase

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down the bonds that connect the hyaluronic acid molecules in the filler. Hyaluronidase permanently dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers by breaking the cross-linking (bond) between the filler's hyaluronic acid chains, which leads to their permanent removal.

The enzyme hyaluronidase, which catalyzes the decomposition of hyaluronic acid, also occurs naturally in our body. The constant production of hyaluronic acid and the subsequent breakdown by hyaluronidase means that one third of the hyaluronic acid in our body is processed daily.

Although naturally occurring in the body, hyaluronidase can be manufactured to dissolve or reverse the results of hyaluronic acid filling. Hyaluronidase is used to correct unwanted aesthetic effects or complications associated with the filler.

When can hyaluronidase be used?

Hyaluronidase can be used for medical or aesthetic problems with hyaluronic acid fillers.

This can happen immediately or after the filler has been in place for some time and include the following;

Improper filler placement

• Product migration - time when the filler has spread beyond the original injection site

• Lumps and unevenness

• Overcorrection - caused by excessive use of filler or too frequent use of filler

• Vessel obstruction

What can I expect after using hyaluronidase?

Dissolving the filler requires about 1-2 treatments, depending on the problem, the given amount of filler and its type. However, if the use of hyaluronidase does not produce the expected results, it may be prudent to perform an MRI to determine if the filler is still present or if there is another problem. Also, if the filler has become hard in consistency, another diagnosis may need to be considered, such as granuloma or delayed type IV hypersensitivity. These concerns are usually not corrected with hyaluronidase as they are immune reactions to the filler.

Application of hyaluronidase in fibrosis

Hyaluronidase is used in the treatment of fibrous cellulite. Specialists have found that an early injection of hyaluronidase can reduce fibrosis and swelling. Hyaluronidase injection also allows for significant reduction or complete elimination of fibrosis. Immediately after the injection, a massage is performed to better distribute the substance. During the massage after the procedure, you can feel the immediate reduction of fibrosis.

How to prepare for dissolving fillers?

Before the procedure is performed, you will have a consultation to determine the goals of the procedure and to make sure that the procedure is necessary. The specialist may also perform a wrist allergy test to check for allergies or sensitivities.

How is the treatment going?

The procedure takes only a few minutes. The specialist applies hyaluronidase to the area where there is unwanted filler or excessive amount of it and may gently massage the application site to ensure even distribution. Bruising and swelling may occur for a few days after the procedure, this is a natural reaction of the body. Effects of the treatment The effects of the hyaluronidase treatment are noticeable after about 2-4 days. The final effect of hyaluronidase can be assessed 14 days after the procedure.
